Morocco Photography Tours
What to expect, example itineraries and answers from our local team Updated October 2026
Morocco photography tours follow the light rather than the clock. Golden dunes, blue-washed lanes, red earth kasbahs and crowded souks give you a new subject every day, but each place shines at a different hour. We plan the route so you reach the dunes before sunrise, walk the medinas early and stop at viewpoints when the sun is low, instead of passing them in the midday glare.
You travel with a driver-guide who is happy to stop whenever you see a frame. Short daily drives and two-night stops give you time to return to a place in better light. If you would like a guide with photography experience, we can try to arrange one on request. Photographing people is a big part of Morocco, so we also help you do it with respect.
Morocco photography tours are private or small group trips timed for the best light: sunrise and sunset in the Merzouga dunes, early mornings in the blue streets of Chefchaouen, the Fes medina and the kasbah of Aït Benhaddou. Your driver-guide plans stops for the light, and a guide with photography experience can be arranged on request.

Why choose Morocco photography tours
- Strong contrasts in a small area Snowy peaks, palm oases, sand seas and painted cities lie within a few days of each other. Few countries give a photographer so much variety on one trip.
- A route built around the light We schedule sunrise and sunset at the places where they matter most, and keep the harsh midday hours for driving or rest.
- Stops whenever you want With a private driver-guide, a viewpoint, a village market or a herd of camels is never “too late to stop”. You decide when the car pulls over.
- Respectful access to people Your guide can introduce you to artisans, families and market sellers and ask on your behalf. A portrait taken with permission and a smile is better than any stolen shot.
- Time to go back Two nights in the key places mean a second chance if clouds or crowds spoil the first try. Good photography needs that extra time.

How to plan Morocco photography tours
Slow pace, two-night stops
Plan fewer places and more nights, especially in Chefchaouen, Fes and the desert. That gives you sunrise and sunset in each place and a second chance if the weather is not right.
Best season for photography
October to April gives clear air and lower sun in the desert, with snow on the Atlas in winter. Spring brings green valleys and flowers; summer is hazy and very hot in the south at midday.
Photographing people with respect
Always ask before photographing people, and accept a no with a smile. Some people ask for a small tip for a portrait; your guide can explain what is usual. Do not photograph police, military sites or official buildings.
Gear and practical tips
Bring spare batteries, cards and a dust-proof bag for the dunes. Drones are strictly controlled in Morocco and are often held at customs, so check current rules before you pack one. A guide with photography experience is possible on request.
Morocco Photography Tours: your questions
What are the best Morocco photography tours?
The best Morocco photography tours include the Sahara dunes, Chefchaouen, the Fes medina and Aït Benhaddou, with enough time in each for good light. A 9 to 10-day route covers all four. We plan the timing of each stop for sunrise and sunset.
Do your Morocco photography tours include a professional photographer?
Our trips are led by a local driver-guide who knows the best viewpoints and times. A guide with photography experience can be arranged on request, depending on availability. We confirm this with you before you book.
Is it OK to take photos of people in Morocco?
Yes, but always ask first. Many Moroccans, especially women and older people, prefer not to be photographed, and some ask for a small tip. A smile, a few words and your guide’s help make portraits much easier.
Where are the most photogenic places in Morocco?
The Merzouga dunes, the blue lanes of Chefchaouen, the Fes medina and tanneries, Aït Benhaddou, the Dades and Todra gorges and the Essaouira harbour are among the favourites. The High Atlas villages are great for landscape photography too.
When is the best time for a photography trip to Morocco?
Autumn, winter and spring offer clearer skies and softer light. Summer is very hot in the desert, with hazy skies at midday. Plan around the moon if you want night sky photos.
Can I fly a drone in Morocco?
Drones are strictly regulated in Morocco and are often held by customs at arrival without prior authorisation. Check the current rules with the authorities before you travel, and do not count on using one.
What camera gear should I bring for Morocco travel photography?
A wide lens for landscapes and medina lanes, a short telephoto for dunes and details, and a fast lens for dark interiors work well. Bring spare batteries, cleaning cloths and a sealed bag against sand.
Are Morocco photography tours private or in a group?
We usually plan them as private trips so you control the pace and the stops. You can also join a small group tour, but stops follow the group schedule.
