Things to Do in Morocco: 33 Activities & Experiences

The best activities and experiences, chosen by the local team who organises them – by region, by month and by type of traveller. Updated October 2026 · by our local team

Morocco packs deserts, high mountains, an Atlantic coastline and some of the oldest medinas in the world into a few hours’ drive. That is why the list of things to do in Morocco is so long – and why it helps to choose well.

Below, our team shares the activities we organise every week: the classics, the adventures and the quiet experiences that guests remember most. Every activity has its own page with prices on request, the best season, what to bring and ten answers to the questions people ask.

In short

The best things to do in Morocco are a camel ride and a night under the stars in the Sahara at Merzouga, the medinas of Marrakech and Fes, a trek in the High Atlas, a sunrise hot air balloon flight over Marrakech, surfing at Taghazout, and a cooking class with a Moroccan family. Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best seasons for almost everything.

What to do in Morocco in 3 days, 5 days or a week

Things to do in Morocco: your questions

What are the best things to do in Morocco?

A camel ride and a night in a desert camp at Merzouga, the medinas of Marrakech and Fes, a trek in the High Atlas, a hot air balloon flight over Marrakech, surfing at Taghazout and a cooking class. Most visitors combine three or four of these in one trip.

What is Morocco best known for?

The Sahara dunes, the old medinas and souks of Marrakech and Fes, the Atlas mountains and Berber villages, mint tea and tagine, and riads – traditional houses built around a courtyard.

What can you do in Morocco in a week?

In seven days you can see Marrakech, cross the High Atlas, spend a night in the Sahara at Merzouga and finish in Fes or back in Marrakech. Our 7-day itineraries show several ways to do it.

What are the best things to do in Marrakech?

Explore the medina and the souks, watch the evening on Jemaa el-Fna, take a balloon flight at sunrise, ride a quad or a camel in the Agafay desert, take a cooking class and relax in a hammam.

What are the best things to do in Agadir?

Surf or paddle at Taghazout, take a boat trip or jet ski along the coast, ride a quad in the dunes, and visit Paradise Valley in the mountains just behind the coast.

What are the best things to do in Morocco with kids?

Camel rides, sandboarding, sleeping in a desert camp, a mule ride in the Atlas, a cooking class and the beach at Essaouira or Agadir. Keep drives short and plan one big activity a day.

What can you do in Morocco in December?

December is sunny and dry: the Sahara, Marrakech and the coast are all good, with cold nights in the desert and the mountains. Book New Year desert camps early, they fill up fast.

When is the best time to visit Morocco for activities?

Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) suit almost every activity. Summer is best for the coast, high mountains and canyoning; winter for the desert, the cities and surfing.

Is it worth going to the Sahara in Morocco?

Yes – for most travellers it is the highlight of the trip. From Marrakech the drive to Merzouga takes two days through the Atlas and the gorges, so plan at least three to four days, or choose the Agafay desert for a short taste near Marrakech.

Do I need to book activities in Morocco in advance?

For balloon flights, desert camps, skydiving and anything in high season (spring, autumn, Christmas and Easter holidays) it is best to book ahead. Send us your dates and we confirm what is available.

Ride a camel into the Sahara

Cross the golden dunes of Erg Chebbi at sunset and sleep in a desert camp near Merzouga.

Camel trekking Morocco’s Sahara is the slow, quiet way into the desert: a line of camels led by a guide on foot, swaying over the orange dunes of Erg Chebbi near Merzouga as the light turns soft. Most of our guests ride at sunset to a camp in the dunes and come back at sunrise. It is calm, not sporty – anyone who can sit on a saddle for an hour can do it.

You walk the medinas of Fes and Marrakech with a guide who grew up there, drink mint tea in a Berber village in the Atlas, watch craftsmen cut zellige tiles or dye leather, and share a meal with a family. The aim is simple: to understand how Moroccans live today, and where those traditions come from.

Fly over Marrakech in a hot air balloon

Sunrise over the Atlas, the palm groves and the Berber villages, followed by breakfast in a tent.

A hot air balloon Marrakech flight is the quietest way to see Morocco wake up. You leave the city in the dark, watch the burners light up the envelope, and lift off just as the sun climbs over the Atlas Mountains. Below you, red-earth villages, olive groves and dry riverbeds turn gold, and on clear winter mornings the snow on the High Atlas shines on the horizon.

Quad or buggy in the desert

Ride the stony Agafay desert near Marrakech or the high dunes of Merzouga with a guide.

Quad biking Marrakech style means leaving the city noise behind in minutes: dusty palm grove tracks, Berber villages and the rocky hills of the Agafay desert, with the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. Our guides ride in front, set the pace to the slowest rider and stop for photos and mint tea. You do not need any experience – we show you the controls and do a short practice loop before we leave.

Visit a nomad family in the desert

Share tea under a tent and learn how nomad families live around the dunes of Merzouga.
