16 Days in Morocco: good to know
Plan a rest day every four or five days
On a trip this long, a free day in Chefchaouen, Fes, the Dades or Essaouira makes the difference. You come back to the road with energy, and you see the towns as a resident, not a visitor.
Combine three or four regions, not all of them
Sixteen days is enough for the north, the desert, the Atlas and the coast – or for the desert, the Anti-Atlas and the south-west. Trying to add every region makes every day a driving day.
Cut the long roads in two
Merzouga is far from everywhere. A night in Midelt, the Dades Valley or Ouarzazate turns a 9-hour drive into two easy days with walks on the way.
Finish by the ocean
After the desert and the mountains, two or three nights in Essaouira, Mirleft or Taghazout are the best way to slow down before the flight home.
16 Days in Morocco: questions travellers ask
Is 16 days enough for Morocco?
Yes – 16 days is a very comfortable length. You can see the imperial cities, the Sahara, the High Atlas and the coast, with rest days, or go deeper into fewer regions such as the desert and the south-west.
Is 16 days too long in Morocco?
Not if the pace is right. Our 16-day routes include free days and short driving days, so the trip feels like a holiday and not a race. Many travellers say the second week is their favourite.
What is the best 16-day itinerary in Morocco?
For a first visit, a route from Casablanca or Tangier through Chefchaouen, Fes, the Sahara and the gorges to Marrakech covers the classics. If you start and end in Marrakech, a loop with the High Atlas, the desert and Essaouira works very well.
How many days do you need in Morocco?
Five to seven days is enough for one region, such as the desert from Marrakech. To see the north, the Sahara and the coast without rushing, plan two weeks or more – 16 days gives you time to rest too.
Can you see the Sahara, the mountains and the coast in 16 days?
Yes. Most of our 16-day routes spend one or two nights in the dunes of Merzouga, a few days in the High Atlas or the gorges, and finish on the Atlantic in Essaouira, Mirleft or Taghazout.
How much does a 16-day trip to Morocco cost?
Our 16-day trips are private and priced on request. The price depends on the number of travellers, the season, the riads and camp you choose and the activities. Tell us your dates and we send you a clear price.
When is the best time for 16 days in Morocco?
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) are best for a long trip across regions. In summer the desert is very hot, so we plan more mountains and coast; in winter the days are sunny but the nights are cold.
Are these 16-day tours private?
Yes. Every itinerary on this page is a private tour on the dates you choose, with your own driver and local guides, and we change it to suit you.
