Morocco Road Trip with a Private Driver
What to expect, example itineraries and answers from our local team Updated October 2026
A Morocco road trip is the best way to feel how fast the country changes: snowy passes, red canyons, palm oases, golden dunes and a wild ocean coast, sometimes in a single week. On our trips you sit back while a local driver-guide takes the wheel. He knows the mountain bends, the good lunch stops and the viewpoints that are not on any sign, so you can watch the landscape instead of the road.
Every road trip we plan is private. You decide how long to stay in each place, where to stop for photos and when to walk, bike or ride a camel along the way. We plan realistic driving days, because distances on the map look shorter than they feel in the mountains. If you are thinking of driving yourself, ask us for advice – we are happy to share what we know.
A Morocco road trip with us is a private journey with your own driver-guide: you choose the route and the stops, we handle the roads. Classic drives include the Tizi n’Tichka pass, the Dades and Todra gorges, the dunes of Merzouga, the Atlantic coast and the Rif mountains.

Why choose Morocco road trip
- Roads that are part of the trip Some of Morocco’s best views are seen from the car: mountain passes, gorge roads and long coastal stretches. A road trip turns the journey into the highlight, not the gap between sights.
- A local at the wheel Mountain bends, village speed limits and police checks are normal for our drivers. You arrive relaxed, and you hear stories about every region you pass through.
- Stop wherever you like Because the car is yours, you can stop for a photo, a fruit stall or a short walk whenever something catches your eye. No fixed group schedule.
- Active breaks along the way We mix the driving with a gorge hike, a surf lesson, a bike ride in an oasis or a camel ride in the dunes. Your legs get to move between the long views.
- Routes that fit your time From a week across the south to three weeks with the desert and the whole coast, we shape the route around your dates. One-way routes save you driving back the same road.

How to plan Morocco road trip
Plan realistic driving days
Mountain roads are slow, so four to six hours of driving with stops is a full day. We plan one longer drive between shorter ones, and two nights in places you will want to explore.
Where to stay on the road
We mix riads in the cities, kasbah hotels in the valleys, a desert camp in Merzouga and guesthouses on the coast. Tell us your comfort level and we choose stays to match.
Best season for a road trip
Spring and autumn are ideal for a full loop. Winter is good for the coast and the desert, but the high passes can be cold or briefly closed by snow. Summer is hot inland, so the coast and the north are the better choice.
Booking and budget
Prices are on request and depend on the number of days, the vehicle and the hotels. A one-way route can save time but may add a return transfer for the car, which we explain when we quote.
Morocco Road Trip: your questions
Is a Morocco road trip safe?
Yes, a Morocco road trip is a popular and generally safe way to travel, especially with a local driver who knows the roads. Main routes are in good condition, but mountain roads are narrow and winding. Avoid long night drives and check your government’s travel advice.
How many days do you need for a Morocco road trip?
Seven to ten days is enough for a good loop through the south or from Marrakech to Fes via the desert. Two weeks lets you add the Atlantic coast, and three weeks covers the desert, the Anti-Atlas and the coast at an easy pace.
What is the best Morocco road trip itinerary for 10 days?
A good 10-day itinerary starts in Marrakech, follows the Atlantic coast to Taghazout, then crosses inland to the gorges and the Merzouga dunes before ending in Fes. Our 10-day road trip follows this route with a private driver-guide.
Can I do a 7-day road trip in Morocco?
Yes. In a week you can drive from Marrakech over the Atlas to Aït Benhaddou, the Dades and Todra gorges and Merzouga, and finish in Fes. It is a full week, so we keep the stops short on the longest driving days.
What is the best Morocco road trip from Marrakech?
The most popular road trip from Marrakech crosses the Tizi n’Tichka pass to Aït Benhaddou and the gorges, then reaches Merzouga. From there you can loop back to Marrakech or continue to Fes. A coastal start via Essaouira adds sea views.
Can I do a road trip in Morocco with kids?
Yes, and children often love the dunes, camels and mountain villages. Plan shorter driving days, regular stops and two nights in key places. Tell us your children’s ages and we adapt the route and the activities.
Should I drive myself or travel with a driver in Morocco?
We only run private road trips with a driver-guide, because it lets you enjoy the views and the stops without stress. If you plan to drive yourself, ask us for advice about routes and road conditions – we are happy to help.
When is the best time for a road trip in Morocco?
March to May and September to November are the best months for a full road trip. Summer is very hot in the south and the desert, while winter brings cold nights and sometimes snow on the high passes.
