Things to Do in Morocco in July
Good for the coast, the high mountains and canyoning – very hot in Marrakech and the Sahara. Updated October 2026 · by our local team
Let’s be honest about the things to do in Morocco in July: this is the hottest time of the year inland. Marrakech often passes 37°C in the afternoon and the Sahara at Merzouga can reach well over 40°C. That does not mean you should stay away – it means you choose the right places. The Atlantic coast stays fresh and breezy, and the High Atlas is green and cool at altitude.
Our summer trips start in the mountains, end by the ocean and keep the hot places short. In Marrakech we visit in the early morning and the evening, with a pool or a hammam in between. If you want the dunes, one night in a Merzouga camp with a sunset and sunrise camel ride is enough – and still unforgettable.
The best things to do in Morocco in July are on the Atlantic coast and in the High Atlas: surfing and paddle near Agadir, kitesurfing in Essaouira, Toubkal treks and canyoning in cool mountain water. Marrakech and the Sahara are very hot in July, so visit the desert only at sunrise and sunset.

Morocco in July: your questions
Is July a good time to visit Morocco?
Yes, if you choose the coast and the mountains. July is great for surfing, kitesurfing, Toubkal treks and canyoning. It is very hot in Marrakech, Fes and the Sahara, so keep those visits short and do activities early and late.
What are the best things to do in Morocco in July?
Surf at Taghazout, kitesurf in Essaouira, climb Toubkal, go canyoning in the High Atlas and spend one night in the Merzouga dunes with a sunset and sunrise camel ride.
Is Morocco too hot in July?
Inland, yes, in the afternoon: about 37°C in Marrakech and over 40°C in the Sahara, sometimes more during heatwaves. The coast stays around 23-26°C and the mountains are pleasant, so most of our July trips focus there.
Can you go to the Sahara in Morocco in July?
Yes, but only at the edges of the day. We ride camels at sunset, sleep in the camp and return at sunrise, and stay in the shade at midday. If you have young children or handle heat badly, choose an evening in the Agafay desert instead.
What is the weather like in Marrakech in July?
Hot and dry, usually about 37°C in the afternoon and around 20°C at night, with heatwaves above 40°C possible. Mornings and evenings are the best time to visit the medina.
Is Morocco in July good with kids?
Yes, at the coast and in the mountains. Beach days and surf lessons near Agadir, mule rides in the Atlas and swimming pools in riads keep children happy. Avoid long drives and midday activities inland.
