Portugal and Morocco Tour: 14 Days from Porto to the Sahara
Porto and Lisbon, then a direct flight to Marrakech for nine days of desert, mountains and the Atlantic.
See the day-by-day routeAbout this Portugal and Morocco tour
This Portugal and Morocco tour combines Porto and Lisbon with nine days in Morocco. After the port cellars and the Douro Valley, the trams of Lisbon and a day in Sintra, a direct flight of about 1 h 45 takes you to Marrakech for the High Atlas, the Sahara dunes at Merzouga and the Atlantic town of Essaouira.
Portugal has no ferry to Morocco, so the flight from Lisbon is the natural link. Our suppliers in Portugal arrange your hotels, the train from Porto and your transfers; in Morocco our own driver and guides take care of every day.

Best time for this trip
Spring (April to May) and autumn (late September to October) are the best months for Spain, Portugal and Morocco together: warm days in the cities and comfortable nights in the desert. July and August are very hot in Seville and the Sahara; in winter the cities are quiet and the desert nights are cold.

Portugal and Morocco Tour: your questions
Is there a ferry from Portugal to Morocco?
There is no regular passenger ferry. Fly from Lisbon or Faro to Marrakech (about 1 h 30 to 1 h 45), or go through the south of Spain and take the ferry from Tarifa.
Can we do a Portugal and Morocco tour in 10 days?
Yes: keep Lisbon only (3 days) and spend 7 days in Morocco, from Marrakech to the Sahara and back.
Why end in Essaouira?
After the long desert days, a day by the ocean is a good end: fresh fish, a walk on the ramparts and a surf lesson. Essaouira is about 3 hours from Marrakech.
Is this tour good for families?
Yes: the Porto–Lisbon train is easy with children, and in Morocco we can shorten the drives and add a pool afternoon.
What our travellers say
A holistic experience
Booking a trip with Moroccan active adventures gave us the most memorable new years celebration of our lived. Our guide Mouhssin was especially talented at turning down deserted mountain/desert roads and finding beautiful riads…
